I love albums where it sounds like the band is gonna break up immediately after release, and the lyrics to Dissociation really reflect on that concept

From the very cursory couple listens I gave Dissociation I feel like I can say I liked it better than One of Us at least.

I never actually sat through it I remember Futures reviewed it and I couldn't be bothered to listen all the way through cause it didn't grab me.

"They had a certain career trajectory that I found really exciting all the way up to OP and with that alb it just started to fall apart and they lost me"

This was my experience with DEP as well. I tried to get into them after Miss Machine, but nothing held my attention. I still return to Calculating Infinity and MM from to time though.

^ yeah completely agree with that as well.

This was fleetingly enjoyable but not the sort of thing I would care to return to, was definitely a bit bloated. I’ve probably been a little generous here thinking about it.

I really latched onto DEP during the Irony is a Dead Scene sessions and retroactively CI. I was a huge fan of Greg-- I wound up seeing them in concert eight times from 2003-2006, including the Miss Machine release parties. That's my favorite era of DEP...

The first pro-thing Greg did other than live shows was putting Baby's First Coffin on the Underworld movie soundtrack (which, at the time was amazing because it also had APC's "Weak and Powerless" on it). I must've listened to that song a zillion times.

The Miss Machine release parties were back-to-back and it was DEP touring with The Bronx, Drowningman, and An Albatross... night two was the same lineup swapping An Albatross for Darkest Hour.

This is growing on me. Thought it was a bit of a mess first time around. I find that the more mellow electronic songs are not up to the standard of Black Queen - eg A Pair of Questions. It works best when Greg starts to properly mesh all of his styles together like Fire for Water or Down when I'm not. Seriously talented guy.

Evacuation rips hard. Love the NIN angsty Reznor vibes on it.

it's all over the place, but I feel like either he had work from his other projects not in his projects proper at the time and just shelved them until he had a big pile to release (the album IS 64 minutes after all), or he just kinda focused on further exploring the different aspects of his writing and just ran with it.

I think that makes it great because it checks most of the boxes that I come to expect from hearing everything else he's been doing, but I can totally understand the multiple paths that this album takes from track to track can be a little off-putting for people.

if I remember correctly he stated that there are songs here that just did not belong to his other projects. imo you can clearly hear that at some points of this record. but the overall quality just outweighs this.

some songs reminded me of a modern version of Antichrist Superstar-era Marilyn Manson...which was good. other songs made it clear who mainly wrote these doomier TDEP songs like Crossburner.

oh yeah, nice review btw. wanted to write one as well so this album can be discussed properly but then I will look for another fitting record that has no review

That line in Roach Hiss gets repeated so much and yet every time Greg's delivery is a little bit different. Superb vocal stuff.
