not sure how much I'll return to this but the songwriting's a notable step up compared to the one they dropped earlier this year. first half is a lil dry still but the quality picks up as it goes

I agree. Sarah's Flame and Watching The Orange Clouds are excellent.

I actually like their last two. I always found DBT inconsistent, but AB and TU felt really polished and invigorating (barring one or two weak tracks). Can't wait till this is available on my streaming service.

So yeah this is already growing on me quite a bit, it's probably better than The Unravelling. I might just be inclined to think so because of the cover art but this feels much more like classic Truckers than that album did.

Checked American Bland, was super not impressed. Is this better?

Eh, no. I'd circle back to their early 00s material (Southern Rock Opera, Decoration Day, and The Dirty South are all good places to start), which is both their best and probably the most likely to appeal to you.

I'll check SRO, didn't like Decoration Day. Cheers!

Firstly, absolutely delighted that one of my favourite bands dropped an album outta nowhere. Very cool, very exciting.
Pleased to have Perilous Night on record now, as it's one of fav DBT songs since the Go-Go Boots/Big To-Do era.
Like the last few records, the first listen had some highlights, but didn't quite hook me straightaway.
After 5 listens though, I'm all in. It's another 4-4.5 for me. The title track, Unravelling, and Watching the Orange Clouds are ace.
I do hope they return to more of the story-telling element of the pre-protest album period.
Still. DBT rule.
