"check out the e-standard remixes on youtube. the songs now sound good, lol"
Metal in E standard is almost always good, it's so weird haha

I thought this was in D standard, but anyway. Good point on the downtunings.
Generic is the word here, very lukewarm stuff throughout.

So true. Nobody's doing E standard anymore these days, so anything new in E standard should sound extra fresh to boot.

E standard & flatted fifth are the most metal things ever.
Thanks for the feature guys! It's nice to see the genre on the main page.

Thrash is a dead genre, imo
Especially the bay area scene thrash

Yes, it stopped being a thing a long time ago, but I still enjoy going back to the classics from time to time.
Whenever I can I'll keep on reviewing some thrash releases.

You should do that. Abandon that unholy path of extreme metal you have gone into...

Thanks man.
Jesus, the album is being hammered...I wasn't expecting so much antagonism.
It's the only relevant metal path at the moment, my friend ;)

Sadly, I have to concur... Even the new Mekong Delta album is lukewarm... But there are bands that fight the fight in the deep underground...

Haha, nope, on the contrary you should lead yourself into extreme metal rockandmetaljunkie :-P

If previous Heathen albums weren't there, Empire of the Blind would fare better on its own, but unfortunately the comparison leaves a lot to be desired. And it's not that these guys are not physically able to play their socks off (like Metallica who admitted that they do not have the stamina to play Master of Puppets live any more), or that they forgot their craft altogether... They are still top notch, but for some reasons, they were compelled to perform way below their potential.

Yes I'm afraid, although things happen in other genres as well, for example who expected a new Hittman album in 2020?

I think you should listen to Voivod, Rock, it's never too late ;)

Most definitely. I hope my review mirrored that message. However, the album still has its moments - The Blight, A Fine Red Mist or The Gods Divide are good tracks.
I'm afraid I don't know Hittman.

This is songwriting laziness at it's pinnacle. When you can predict what the guitar riffs are going to do next...that's not a favorable sign.

You're kinda right now that you bring it up. I think riffs just "pop" better in e due to the higher frequencies, where as when you start tuning down the low notes tend to bleed together the farther you go down.
It's why all those "What if (insert classic metal band here) TUNED DOWN?!?!?!?" youtube videos are so lame. The riffs just lose their luster when the higher notes are dampened.
Like this shit is straight terrible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAzbnLgM8Ok&ab_channel=AndrewBaena

^ that's one of the reasons 7th and 8th string guitars were introduced. Cause they have extra strings bigger in diameter. A general rule is that 6th string guitars tend to slack when downtuned too much and they produce a "muddy" sound. An extremely downtuned, 6th string guitar must be handled in a different fashion.
As for the lower notes, players tend to avoid playing single notes and stick to their power chords. Nonetheless, guitars were not invented to play in extremely low frequencies in the first place. That's bass's role...
But lower frequencies do produce a "heavier" sound...
And trve metal must be "heavy", so....

^^I hear you ;-)
I liked Blood Mantra enough, it brims with energy throughout hence my lack of grievances about Decapitated’s departure from legacy albums; Empire of the Blind on the other hand, keeps me focused on the blatant difference between past and present.

I think what irks me the most is that evolution of chaos was really good and then they take ten years to release a generic by-the-numbers thrash album. If this didn't have the heathen name slapped on it, it could well be one of the bazillion records people make in their basement nowadays and release on bandcamp. You'd be hard-pressed to spot the difference or find a modicum of brilliance that makes it stand out from the rest of the packing crowd.
