I could be wrong, but the mixing on this album sounds super flat.
Interesting. Expand please. I know there's some half dodge VBR files floating around that do lack some depth particularly around the vocals and that bass feel. However the actual 320's seem to do really well between headphones and larger speakers. Not trying to get into another bitrate discussion but, yeah, it's noticeable.

After listening to this quite a few times, I can say that this is the direction that Leprous shoud've went with too.

This is pretty decent. However, the production, much like with all CA albums seems fairly unbalanced, and this album in no way feels like an interesting musical progression for the band.

I tried with this one, but then I re-listened to their old albums and now I like this less. This is still better than In Contact, but not by much. New CH just doesn't hit me the same way

@Nocte I'm no sound engineer myself, but someone who is referred to this as missing heights on the low ends. My guess is that if you don't boost these type of frequencies enough, it's gonna sound a bit compressed overall and doesn't give you the warm feeling of many modern prog bands. Seems to be a style choice and personal preference, though.

I really think they had some slightly generic moments on their earlier albums they really came into their own with Bloom and IC. Still loving this. Autumn and the Ascent rule so much

I think Salt, Valkyrie and Autumn are actually my favorites on here.

Listening now. These guys worship Leprous.

Naaah, I wouldn't say that. Even though Jim embraces his falsetto a little more since In Contact and that's due to singers like Einar Solberg and Arnor Dan Arnarson

Are you implying they don't have a Leprous altar in their rehearsal room? I sense some Einar worship, or at least some incense candles with Leprous logos

They're fans, that's for sure hahaha. But I wouldn't call them Leprous worship tbh

Leprous should be worshiping CH.

It was just a first impression when listening to the opener, no deep thinking. I don't know their work to have a solid opinion ;)

I like this a lot more than anything I've heard by Leprous tbh.

Nah Leprous is superior to this band in pretty much every way.

real good listen. the hook in Slow Violence is sooooo good. Salt has to be the clear highlight, you can tell how much effort was put into that one. Nothing bad to say really, I'll take a solid under 50 minute prog album any day.

When they're in their groove, they're probably one of the tightest bands I've heard. Still underwhelmed by their latest release, though.

Except in making music that I enjoy, in which they are vastly inferior.

This record is superb. They're dialed in - feels like they know exactly what they're going for and how to accomplish it. I'm impressed.
