I actually don't get the complaints about production. The vocals and production immediately stood out to me as strengths. If there was a gripe I could see folks having it would be more stylistically-inherent aspects of art-rock/indie - like the fact that it's not "heavy enough" or some such similar critique. Some of the lyrics are a little basic. Those were the criticisms I was expecting, if any. But yeah I can't say enough about the vocals, production, and overall songwriting - to me, it ensnared my interest immediately and every time I thought it was about to slow down or stagnate, it'd take some cool twist/turn to change my mind.

Production is good.

Album title makes me q happy
"Some of the lyrics are a little basic"
Glad there haven't been specific complaints about this (yet); one of the things I liked was how the lyrics were used repetitively as a vehicle for vocal motifs, and how this was convincing enough that the penmanship didn't feel like the main deal (like in the second track)

"this sounds like falling up more than the dear hunter. "
as if I wasn't already excited enough after reading the similar bands and amazing review...I'm so, so intrigued by a Cerberus of Falling Up, TDH and Manchester Orchestra

"but then again nothing sounds like the dear hunter."
ngl, actively jealous at how much you must have bypassed musical theatre to arrive at this take lol

obviously I meant strictly musical projects. I have done a great job of dodging the theater but I can see how there might be some similarities out there.

acting as if The Receiving End of Sirens didn't exist

Their overlap with the Dear Hunter is self-explanatory though

Yeah there's definitely a theatrical element that overlaps with The Dear Hunter but this is a little less rock oriented and more influenced by experimental pop. I can't believe that one of my top 3 albums of the year thus far came from a sputnik user produced no-name indie album lol.

Definitely better than the other half-dozen albums of this ilk I've checked over the last year or two.

the seven minute track with 14 words hahaha
|

if 14 words can hold down 7 minutes, chances are they're the right words amirite lol

The funny thing is I didn't realize how few words were used in that song until I checked the lyrics out on bandcamp and even then I was like "... really?" and had to go listen again because I couldn't believe it. The song sounds so full and satisfying, you'd never guess that it's so lyrically simple.

This dude/band is legit. I live in the same city as Andrew and have only seen him once. Only listened to this once last night but I feel like it could be his best and it was really good.

I didn't spend nearly enough time in my review talking about 'Hair of the Dog' and how awesome it is.
Also, hi Romulus! Hope you're well.
