Trey does sound similar in soloing as Jerry but the similarities end there. Phish’s music is very different from The Grateful Dead. They draw much more from the Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads influences.

More conventional than the Dead in many aspects,
the Dead make covers their own,
Phish tries to make them sound like the original
Phish can’t take off like the Dead
|
| |
i don't like the whole Dead vs Phish debate, they both sound so different. i do agree Phish have a more conventional jam sound though, while the Dead are a musical chameleon
|
| |
I dont like the comparison either, totally different band, philosophy, influences, not fair to either band
|
| |
let's be real though, Disco Biscuits > all jam bands!!

"They draw much more from the Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads influences."
to be honest, I know true phish fans will think this is an insult, but live BOC has a lot of similarities to them, the covers part anyway
