Dude, like I said, at least people are commenting. You are sparking conversation, that's the name of the game, right? It isn't like people are voting against your or anything. (Forget your troubles and go read my newest review!)

I listened to this again tonight, since it was being discussed, and I think the part at about the 1:30 mark of "So What," where the drums kick in, is one of the best things you'll ever hear.
And speaking of Charlie Parker, since we kind sort of maybe a little bit were, The Essential Charlie Parker is an all-time favorite. I normally hate compilations, but with Parker, they are pretty much all you have to choose from.

Alright, I changed the intro, removed the false information, and took down the hyperbole.

"...they are pretty much all you have to choose from if you want inexpensive studio material" would be more accurate. There are several packages of complete Bird recordings: Complete Savoy and Dial Studio Recordings, Complete Verve Studio Recordings, Complete Savoy Live Performances, etc. You can even get sets that just have the master takes, if you don't want the alternates (every Parker solo is different, plus I'm an obsessive completist, so personally I disagree with this approach). However, those sets are indeed pretty expensive. So my reccomendation is to get some of the regular albums that aren't in any of the sets (Jazz at Massey Hall, Town Hall 1945, etc.), figure out how much you like Parker, and if you like what you hear enough, go for one of the box sets.

I just got a 3 disc Charlie Parker set of live recordings of him at Birdland. It's pretty awesome.

I will have to go with Schyma. This is an amazing album, but if you haven't listened to Karma you are missing out. What an experience.
I am suprised I don't own Kind of Blue... I will have to run out and get it sometime.

Then why'd you give it a 5?

Uh..
He said he didn't own it. That doesn't mean that he hasn't heard it enough or that he doesn't have it downloaded.

I usually don't rate albums I don't have as a 5... but that's just me.

Cliched opinion but for me the best jazz album of all time.

For people who like this album I just have to recommend Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage. The best modal jazz album imo.

None of Miles' records can be considered a magnum opus because the bastard has like ten of em! Maybe even more.
