@Tundra thanks for reading my man.

@Wines I mean, they do those cinnamon biscuits, I suppose that's something. Probably not good on the heart though.

Not so hot these days to be honest, plenty of dissent against it.

Nice to see that this thing finally got a review. Is the album worth listen to if I like Abandoned?

If you liked "Abandoned" then you'll probably enjoy this. It's basically the same song repeated 11 other times. Nice atmosphere and all, but lacking instrumental weight and diversity in structuring.

Like I said, if this is your thing it'll probably be a solid 3.5 at best, but I wouldn't expect much different from it than what you could find in any other prog-core/djent artist.

"@Steak heard the album plenty of times. Nothing new. I know progcore is your thing but this does not have a unique voice whatsoever. "

This isn't progcore first of all, and second of all why do you keep coming back to the genre if you never like it?

Because any time a progressive metal album becomes popular I'd like to see what's going on. I can't predict whether or not it will be a style I desire before I click play.

And I understand that they are not fully progcore, but the influence is there as I said.

this is progcore in the shallow sense of progcore as nothing actually progressive is happening here

I think I know my issue with this, it's too dissonant for me. The instrumentals are doing a lot of things but nothing catches my ear in any meaningful way, they just feel like a meandering endeaver to get to a place of little importance or value.

Was wondering when I'd see this pop up here. TBH I was really stoked for this to come out after hearing their recent record. Swiped it the moment it leaked and it was just...fine?

And maybe that's worse than it being a bad record. Because I listened to it 3 times through in the past couple weeks and honestly only the erhu (I love the sound) sticks in my memory. The rest is just...gone. There's neat moments abound, but nothing collectively all that engaging. And I too wish the vocalist got some range to his cleans.

All the elements you bemoan as trite are usually the very things to excite me about a record. I eat this shit up. But this just left me indifferent. There's no climax, no clever progression, no cathartic bursts like we've seen mastered by sonic peers like The Contortionist and Tesseract. It's so average it hurts.

Excellent musicianship, poor songwriting. They wrote a whole album of stuttering, angular, jarring, clashing riffs that lack harmony. I just can't do it. Tight, calculated interplay, but no personality. I do kind of like 1-2 tracks but on the whole this was a disappointment.

Great review too man!

You got through the whole thing, I could only sit through 3 songs so I commend you on that lol, yeah I was just done with this album pretty much the minute I hit play, it's so tepid and void of anything remotely interesting (I suppose the dissonance guys will like it)
