Runnin’ Toward the Light is fantastic too. This project could rival The Wonder Years, sheesh

I had to slap a 5 on this. The first listen through on its own was amazing, but when I was able to sit down and listen with the lyrics, it impacted me as much as any album has. I’ve become so attached to this character that the level of hope found throughout was just amazing, since it was so unexpected. Him becoming a father figure to his nephew was a punch in the gut that I wasn’t expecting and broke me a little bit. Love love love everything about this.

Those final 3 songs are just emotionally crushing and such a nice twist. Following Aaron on his journey of rebuilding his life to being the support for someone else in their time of need is just beautiful.

First listen wasn't all that kind to this record for me. The song's didn't seem all that distinct from one another and the whole concept of the project seemed more hackneyed and less poignant. Bloodied in a Bar Fight came off as self parody.

I need to sit down and spend time with the lyrics and give this record a few more run-throughs before making any judgement, but right away, it seems to mirror the classic second-record tale of better production and weaker songwriting.

Edit: I mean, don't hate me yet, everyone. Every chance I'll come back three days from now and love this.

Thanks Chan I kind of got that impression between listening to this and Sister Cities, that lyrically there were important things going on where I was perhaps only getting part of the message. This is a band I've been meaning to go about listening to the right way, so I'll try to give their discography a listen over the course of 2019.

Bloodied In a Bar Fight is just awful

I'm sorry everyone who thinks this song is great, but it comes off sorta like if SNL decided to do a skit on Soupy.

I mean that’s kind of the point of the song though. It’s him at the shittiest, lowest point of his life. No frills, no metaphor, just a smack in the face showing him he needs to turn his life around. The whole project had basically built up to that song and I thought the payoff was worth it.

I want Soupy to write a stage show so bad.

I thought the payoff was painfully clumsy and so on the nose it's no wonder its broken.

But, again, only one listen. I should probably stop bitching until I revisit.

I think that’s totally fair, I can see how it would be abrasive. I like the straightforwardness, it makes the character seem so much more real to me. But I can totally see how it would seem ridiculous.

Bar Fight is the song that kept me from giving this a perfect score. I like the song but it is a little overwrought (even if that's the point)

If you did, the first album is definitely better, but this isn't the Dear Hunter. You got the gist.
