"This music was in part the vehicle for a wider gesture drawn from projecting a mysterious brand into the overtly public idol sphere, but since the appeal of this brand came from the contradiction between its aloofness and publicity it, like other public enigmas of its kind, was never a sustainable project. In this way, Dots created the conditions for their own eventual obsolescence"
I don't understand this at all. I see absolutely no reason they couldn't have continued in the same vein as always, doing the quirky kind-of-irrelevant stuff offstage, while giving us fantastic live shows. It's not unusual for an idol group to disband after two or three years, for any number of reasons.

Heya, so my point was that anonymity (in my opinion) only remain interesting for so long, so it would have eventually seemed pretty tired if they had kept on in the same vein. Sure, they could have kept on playing shows, but from the live I watched the gimmickry and aloofness still felt like part of the performance's attraction, so I kinda get that they broke up while those blindfolds seemed genuinely mysterious rather than token schtick that didn't seem fresh or surprising anymore. Not sure if you'll agree, but hope that at least makes sense!

^funnily enough, that exchange brought me back to this and it's grown on me even harder. Might be top 5 of the year material, potentially needs a higher rating...
