This is the sort of thing I absolutely fucking detested from the age of about 12 until around a year ago.
That trite, superficial soulless rock that is about as dangerous as a daisy but recently for reasons unknown I can dig this and I can’t stop listening to Anathema for some bizarre reason.
Maybe Steven Wilson has turned me into a soft old sod.

Almost missed your comment, Zak. For me, the thing with this kind of music is that it's really close to becoming superficial and whiny, and some bands tend to cross that line. Actually, this was one of my complaints with Anathema's latest album.

on point - there's such an authenticity to this that pulverises me. it's one of the most emotionally poignant albums i've heard in recent memory to the point where sometimes i'm legitimately afraid to listen to it.

also just adding: 'wish i was here' is like the track anathema have been trying to write their entire god damn career

Working my way through this, This is Not Utopia is an early highlight.

Oh yeah, I know the feeling. Alternative 4 and Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here do that to me.

This is pretty good, better than most Antimatter albums, however personally I think their debut or the last album had a bit more punch. I think some of these songs tend to bleed together despite most of them being good. And Mick Moss isn't that great of a vocalist, he just sounds a bit too strained and forced here for my taste, although it does work in favor of the music sometimes. The overall record is solid, I'm not denying that, however I think it's just a bit too derivative to compare to better Anathema albums.

The overall bass... the guitar, synths, electronics , drums is what makes this album resonate with me. Dark and heavy as hell...
