Good review. This wasn't as good as it could have been but it still did the trick for me.

Why would that cause frustration? I'd be more annoyed if there were two places to have to hear everything, but it's all on this album. Keeps things simple.
it's just largely because I really, really dislike how they're placed in the larger scheme of the album, they dwarf the songs around them quality-wise and make for a super uneven listen
It wasn't even an EP, they just released four songs from the album early. If you listen to four songs from an album before release of course that will taint your initial experience.
yeah but we didn't know that, because they weren't announced as singles and there wasn't an album announcement for like a couple of weeks after that release. not really on the fanbase if they released those songs without making it clear they'd also be on an upcoming release
I also just don't like quite a few of the new ones

The three songs before Melt measure up to the EP from earlier this year.

Yeah I am not connecting with the newer songs here at all. "Melt" is kinda terrible.

Idk I really dislike I won't run from it. Really seems to clash with People's Lullaby (my fave)

Whu? That's one of the best new ones imo. People's Lullaby is incredible I admit tho

i feel like the EP they released ruined this for me as I listened to it like ten times and it has the best songs, so this ends up being rather lackluster.

I really dig what I've heard off this, particularly "Forest Green".

I am really digging this. Justin Vernon is the man

JV is da man agreed. A lot of these feel like demos/incomplete. Yet even so these two can do no wrong. A testament to their musical ability.

This is great, like the third part of a trilogy of albums starting with 22, A Million and Sleep Well Beast.

Definitely see the relation to 22, a Million, but I guess I haven't heard enough National to hear the similarities there

Spiral Skies is me actually, guess I was logged into that account at work yesterday for some reason.
neek you should listen to more National, they're one of the best active bands.
If I were to rank the three it'd be SWB>22, A Million>this.
