Pay No Mind is the weakest song here imo but I love its chorus so

This is their weakest effort in several years imo.

People used to mock The National for stubbornly sticking to one style but then they put out Sleep Well Beast. This band churns out the same old airy snoozefest yet it's declared AOTY?

DC and this are significantly different than their past stuff imo, granted this album can feel a bit formless but it's aiming for something different than their more melodic stuff

I would actually liken Beach House to The National in how they subtly adjust their sound. After the first couple BH albums every album has quite a distinct vibe to it even if on the surface they tend to sound very similar. I won’t make any judgments on quality yet but this seems to be a very similar sort of progression of sound for Beach House to what The National did with Sleep Well Beast.

This band sucks and I have no desire to listen to this outside of morbid curiosity

no idea what to think of this after 2 listens. first listen i thought "what the heck is the big deal, this is same old dreamy forgettable beach house" but then second listen felt textured, harmonic, and really sort of pretty...
gonna need at least a third listen to start to formulate a rating. right now could be anything from a 2.5 to a 4.5 lol

That’s funny Treb, I could say the same thing about pretty much any band in your 5s.

Yeah Trebor prob has my least favourite music taste on the site.
And, y'know, ToonDude exists.

This album is just so airy and monotonous most of the time. I feel tired after the first two tracks, especially the latter which slows things down to a crawl. I do like Lemon Glow, it most resembles Bloom. L'inconnue is perhaps the best song, and most of what's left seems to just kind of exist. It's hard for me to remember a lot of this, it has a way of just passing me by. Pretty innocuous stuff. Seems to prioritize the 'dream' in 'dream pop', which is fine for some, but tends to bore me.

I like this so far, but it's not album of the year

First listen was a 3-3.5 for me. Ok but definitely not worth the hype. Will give it another spin today though.

i really disliked depression cherry, but this is a lot more interesting. after a slow start, by the middle-point this got me hooked 100%: It's dreamy, it's psychedelic, it's kind of off-kilter and weird. Goof stuff.
