even though this is definitely more thinkpiece than review, it's articulate and well-enough defended. xxx is a lazy artist and this is a lazy album that really doesn't deserve in-depth sonic analysis. there's nothing that xxx deserves more than a nice ding to his metacritic score attached to a piece that calls bullshit what it is and addresses the ridiculous lameness of the current critical response to the album. what's great about this site is that reviewers, staff and user alike, have a ton of freedom, and i think arcade's used his responsibly here

I still hear a decent amount of effort spread, albeit thin, across the whole project. Given the fact that it has a neat feature list, he promoted it with singles, I still think it warrants a review no matter how negative the review is.

the album being bad definitely gives you material to work with, don't excuse it
