Everything’s played well here (inc the bass) I just can’t enjoy the overall effect, you feel?

Because I actively can’t stand listening to it?

This at an intrusively loud volume would make me either switch it off or vacate the building, you get me?

“Wow, this comedy show is well produced and acted...but it isn’t funny and makes my skin crawl and I want to switch it off. I rate it a respectful 4 out of 5 cos it’s well made and features talented artists”.

Nah, you be honest and shit on it. 2/5 is the best ‘poor’ score I could give.

that is fair enough. do you listen to a lot of jazz? don't mean to sound snobbish with that - lord knows jazz snobs are up there with the worst DM elitists. just curious because while Coleman certainly has his own feel to things and is pretty unique, the overall feel and chaos isn't too uncommon for a lot of avant-garde stuff from that time period

I can enjoy other stuff from Coleman sure, and a lot of other jazz or jazz influenced stuff, I just recoil a bit from 'free jazz' or the most avant-garde jazz. Improv and loads of individual virtuosity on an instrument just rarely do it for me in pure enjoyment terms. Occasionally it hits the spot, but not often.
