@ rodrigo

No problem man. Now it's perfectly clear what you wanted to meaning. It's another perspective of the band's music. Nice.

Nice job e21. Great informative review. It amused me. It seems to be an almost consensual mood about the album not very exciting. Meanwhile have a pos.

Thanks Intruder.

"It seems to be an almost consensual mood about the album not very exciting."

Yeah, you are right. It seems to be no great enthusiasm for this album, really, with the exception of rodrigo. This isn't a surprise for me. As I wrote on my review, it seems to be the less loved album of Yes, by fans and critics of the 70's.

It's probably because it's almost impossible to not feel the silliness of this album. It has such a sugary taste that I can see why it's not that loved

Yeah Sab, it's too silly to be taken seriously. For me, the only song that really sounds like some classic Yes is ''Future Times/Rejoice'', plus maybe other bits and pieces here and there. Anderson is in a good shape indeed. In general, through the album, Wakeman don't always choose an appropriate keyboard, and Howe often plays in rooms he shouldn't play.

Anyway, the majority of the songs are built around Squire and Anderson, and both are doing a pretty good job throughout Tormato.

My main gripe with this album is that the mellow and acoustic songs are quite bland and sound pretty much like fillers or like Anderson's solo stuff, and the rocking ones are either too up-beat and nervous, or would be better simply instrumental like for ''Arriving UFO'', for instance. ''Release Release'' has good ideas, but it's too speedy to sound like Yes. Slowing it down a bit would have helped. ''On the Silent Wings of Freedom'' opens promisingly, but I find it repetitive and too long for nothing. It's an attempt to do an epic song, but it's just an ok song.

I completely agree with you Jethro. For me, there are three songs that I can't like and that shouldn't be part of the album. "Don't Kill The Whale", is a song with direct and protest lyrics, so fashion in those times. It has nothing to do with the usual lyrics of the band. Lyrics of Anderson are mystic and much more complex. Besides, the music is somehow close to disco, also fashion in those times. "Arriving UFO" is so weird, weak and ridiculous that I've no more words to express my feelings. "Circus Of Heaven" is so cheesy that it should never be part of a Yes' album. This is s song for a solo Anderson's album.

Speaking of post-Tormato albums, the band is going to remix Fly From Here and have Trevor Horn do vocals. The original Drama line-up will be involved in the project and a new song will be added too

Yes Sab, I heard this from Facebook. I think that Fly From Here is the closest to Drama in terms of songwriting. It has echoes of Drama, and it's not a coincidence that Trevor Horn is the producer of Fly From Here. I don't think the remix is going to make any difference; Trevor Horn and Benoit David have similar voices, and the title track's suite is alright as it is. On the other hand, the rest has rooms for improvement. I hope they enhanced that second part of the album, otherwise that remix would have be done in vain. I tend to think the project itself is simply a Trevor Horn's ego-trip.

As you both know, I'm not so negative about "Fly From Here" as both of you are. Since "Drama", it's perhaps my third favourite studio album of Yes, after "Keystudio" and "Magnification". So, I'm a bit curious about that release. Still, I'm afraid that Jethro can be right and that the project itself can be simply a Trevor Horn's ego-trip and that release can be absolutelly unecessary.

I don't even remember what "Fly From Here" sounds like. (I'm not sure if that says more about the album, or my memory.) I'm always interested in hearing what Trevor Horn is up to, but I fear in this case Jethro is pointing in the right direction.

If I remember well the big suite felt underwhelming. The album did have pleasant moments though, maybe with Horn and a different mix I could dig it more. I really like Horn's voice (White Car is literally my favorite song on Drama speaking of quality/length lol) and considering the addition of a new song I will listen to the new Fly From Here for sure.

This could be the chance to make Yes relevant again in the mind of some fans, because it has the Drama line-up and it "progs" undeniably. I enjoyed the full Drama performance on the last live album, as I said I think we could still get a worthwhile all-new Yes album if they try hard enough.

The main question is how does Horn sound today

The best of the album lies in its epic suite, bro. Bits and pieces of it sound pretty much like Drama's period. Horn's vocals are in theory more powerful and richer than Benoit David's, and would suit the album better still. I just hope they don't touch to the suite.

And you're right, Sab, the full live Drama performance is really well done. Jon Davison's vocals do the trick. I even ask myself if he would do a better job than Trevor Horn, but it's another story.

One thing is sure, Jon Davison is able to sing every Yes songs. We can't say the same for Trevor Horn who apparently ruined the good old classic Yes songs when he toured for Drama.

I only remember the Sad Night part of the suite, which is indeed nice, I'm curious to hear Horn's version. I think one of my complaints was that as a whole the suite felt more like a collection of songs glued together, which broke my immersion in it.

Okay now onto the real talk. Why did they change the cover artwork? Why did they change the animals, where are the birds? It's called "fly from here" not "climb from there" ffsjkfsjkdsjkdsxm

Sab, if you listen carefully, ''We Can Fly'' and ''Sad Night'' are linked by the lyrics, ''Madman'' follows the overture's musical theme, and the closer part repeats ''We Can Fly'' section. So all the ingredients of a conventional epic suite are there. Also, I think that most of the existing suites are a collage of different ideas that segue together either by the lyrics or by recurrent musical themes. It's true that for this suite, we have like 3 or 4 distinct songs merged together, but what a good combination.

I really think that suite makes the difference for this album. There are interesting segments in the individual songs as well, mostly for ''Into the Storm'', the ending of ''The Man'', ''Life on a Film Set'' has a good chorus... I consider to give it a 3.5.

@Twig, album definitely deserves more than a 2 ;)

I have problems to get into ''That, That Is'', and that's what prevents me to give the album a 4.

Who said that, Titanbro?
