Ya nailed it, man. “These songs are not about one part of them that’s supposed to wow you; they are about engulfing you in their rich entirety.” Yes yes yes, this describes all their work perfectly

Oughta pos Uni.
I am not a big fan of Darcy's vocals sometimes but only checked the singles so will give it a full spin and report back.

Compare to Protomartyr?
|
| |
Incomparable.
|
| |
Protomartyr were crude, but soulful, with an obvious hidden chagrin.
Ought are completely calm and unblinded by any struggle ahead.
Prot are harsher, but more beautiful; Ought are softer, but more self-aware.

I'd never listened to these guys before, checked out Sun Coming Down yesterday and it was pretty cool. Gonna get to this one today.

This piece could have benefited from some closer editing, but I had good fun reading it nonetheless. Looking forward to hearing this thing.

Oh hey look it’s Uni heaping massive praise on a post-punk album, what else is new?
|
| |
he already reviewed six albums at a 4.5 this year, it's hard to take the inflated ratings seriously
|

And just like that, with a flick of Jack's fingers, this became irrelevant.

solid enough album, but nothing here trumps habit or their other strongest cuts from past records..
|
| |
yep, habit is a song of the decade
|
| |
You know, Lucid, when you're right, you're right. Habit is a damn fine-ass track.

Didn't expect ought to turn into The Cure but that's what happens on 'These 3 Things' - Robert Smith yelps n' all
