But really, I wasn't a fan of this. Only a few songs clicked for me, even after repeated listens

Yeah, unfortunately, some of the songs here aren't working with his voice.

I have a feeling this was not the best choice for my second Lanegan album.

Listen to Blues Funeral and Bubblegum before moving to Phantom Radio and this one. The transition is smoother.

Boney, given your tastes, you need Field Songs and Scraps at Midnight..Bubblegum is fantastic.. Blues funeral is the beginning of the end..

Too late insomniac, I've already spun this a couple times.

Butcher I'll keep those in mind.

I don't see Blues Funeral as the beginning of the end at all. He is going to be putting out alot more albums before he is done. And I have no problem with the direction he has gone.

I don't mean so much as he's done now.. but it was the transition album.. both this and phantom radio are very weak records in what was otherwise an incredibly enduring discography.. what he needs is to get better producers that know electronic music.. because this all sounds clunky and amateur for a music veteran..

I don't think it is lumped into electronic just sounds like synthesizers and some drum machines. More post punk 80s influence than anything. I actually really like the production on this one. I will say I wasn't a fan of phantom radio but this redeemed the direction he's going for imo. I think there is a lot to build off of now. Sure not all of it works but a good artist is always pushing it and it's not always gonna be pretty.

Better than him being stagnant anyways. Just look at how much ground this man has covered over the course of his career.

i agree with you on some level.. I've loved his work dearly for many years, and still do.. but this is just bad.. both Bubblegum and his gutter twins project skirted the line of post-punk better than these clustered synth battering rams.. my opinion though.. obviously.

His voice doesn't seem to fit too well with this style and the production is a bit too clean for his voice too

Man I love Lanegan's voice but I am not sure what is he trying to do here. I still like it though.
