I wonder if the reason the mix is so unbalanced is because they used some really fucked up headphones or speakers for mastering. Like, imagine if they used beats, would explain why there's no low end.

Well, I kind of take that back. The Beat Pro actually aren't as bass heavy as I thought: http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/MonsterBeatsPro.pdf
But yeah I'm still betting on them using some weird headphones that gave the illusion of a good mix. I actually want to contact the band or studio to see if they will re release this mastered properly, I can imagine how huge and awesome it would sound.

well I mean I haven't listened to this and I'm actually pretty fond of some stuff A7X have done (just didn't listen to them in a very long time), so it's not like I'm saying it's the wrong way around. it's just something that wasn't expected.

This is really, really good. They took out the over the top cheesy hooks and added a fair dose of prog. 'Exist' is a masterpiece.
