I like Cauterize a lot more

I just think he needs to step up the aggression in the vocals before I'll be able to dig this very much. Betray Me could have had intense verses if his vocals were angrier.

Cauterize is better than this, and All I Was is better than Cauterize. Tremonti's "solo" project is still a lot of fun, but I feel he's getting stale. Even though Mark denies these songs are leftovers, a big chunk of this feel like b-sides, in particular Never Wrong and Rising Storm, and to a lesser extent Once Dead and Catching Fire. Also, Unable To See doesn't touch Providence as an album closer, which is a pity too.

All I was is not better than Cauterize (IMO).

I don't know, I feel as if All I was has a bit more of speed metal influence than Cauterize, which I prefer. Also, Doesn't Matter is the only song of that album I can live without. With Cauterize, I liked the fact that Mark tried out different things like the Alice In Chains/grunge influenced Flying Monkeys, the very dynamic title track (including a nice acoustic outro there), and the stellar Providence (probably his best effort on the Tremonti project). But some of it felt a bit more by the numbers I think.
With this, I feel like the band is on autopilot, there's hardly any speed/thrash influence and virtually no experimentation to be found (as in Cauterize). Even one of the best songs here, Tore My Heart Out, feels like Fall Again part 2. It still solid, but it just runs together for me for the most part.

The studio version is even more boring than his live performance of this album

I think the album cover is kick ass. Definitely fits the mood of the music.

This sounds more polished than cauterized but the vocals still don't work and the riffs are still generally overly simplistic and sound very derivative.
Decent, but not more. Gotta wonder how these last two albums have detracted from the newest Alter Bridge album in a creative sense.
The thing about Tremonti is that he seems so dedicated to always improving as a musician, I have no doubt that he'll put out a more interesting foray into metal in the future. Hopefully something more progressive with Tremonti on vocals.

He did mention Master of Puppets to have a major influence on him and I did hear some solo stuff that was cool so I'll gladly give this a go.

yep, I feel like Tremonti is right on the edge of releasing something absolutely classic with the progress he's made

AB and Tremonti could both release some masterpieces if they abandoned the butt rock aspects of their sound and took some risks.

Myles Kennedy needs to stop hanging out with Slash for that to happen
