The Final is the best song ever made.

"If you are saying that you never heard a song like Merciless Cult before, than you must not have heard of linkin park."

Similar riffing style yea but the way it's utilized is completely different, as is the general aesthetic. Don't think I would ever compare the bands tbh

This was my first Dir en grey album, still holds a special place in my heart even though their last three albums are their best by far.

@Evo, I changed the closing line of the review to make it sound less contradictory to my opinion, because I still believe MOAB is their most important release in terms of sound. But this was a foundation builder for sure.

And I don't see the LP comparisions tbh. Although some songs on here are simplified.

@PLeb Think I still prefer the remake of The Final.

Excellent. So where are we on this being one of the best DIR albums of the pre-UROBOROS era?

I'll do with that I guess but in terms of studio albums Gauze is the only one I really care about.

Gauze is clearly the best pre-Uroboros album for me.

Can't really say I see where the similarities are in terms of sound. Then again, I've only heard, like, two Linkin Park songs. Never a band I felt the need to pursue.

Speaking of Merciless Cult, AQA Vol.2's performance of it ruled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9N48v1cvDI

Despite the throat condition, he does some songs extremely well during that tour.

There's a couple of tracks I would definetely leave behind and make it a 12-track album instead of 14. But holy hell did the balance of hard-hitting malice and melody pan out well with this one. The Final still makes me shiver with feels.

The mix leaves a lot to be desired, though. Everything's pretty muddy, a problem this shares with Vulgar, which I view as a companion piece to WTD. because of the songwriting quality and influences those albums wear.

Dunno if I agree about the mix being muddy, it all sounds pretty good to me. The only album that was badly mixed was the original UROBOROS, the rest have been sweet imo.

Withering to Death is a killer release. I'd say every track on here stands out (except Jesus Christ Rn' R, I hate that track).
