I would say that technical. Boring for the most part yes.

If I could think of it as not Obscura than I might think otherwise but for now it's meh to me.

Feels like their prog tendencies really show on this one. Weltseele is amazing

You guys know about Tom "Fountainhead" Geldschläger being a guitarist in the band during its writing and was only kicked out by Steffen Kummerer once the album was already fully written? He says he wrote a lot of the album excluding "Ode to the Sun" and you can still hear him playing on the album. He does the fretless guitar parts and fretted guitars. And he almost entirely wrote Weltseele by himself, aside from some input from the bassist Linus.

Been jamming all week and it's amazing. I really dug Alkaloid's Grimmoire as well (although lenght was a bit of an issue), I think both bands went in interesting directions

sounds like cynic-lite

edit: it's still p. good tho, however its large of collection of cool little moments dont make a collectively excellent record (for me) amongst all the unenjoyable tech death filler in between

This is gonna be a hard album to beat this year, imo. This hits all the right notes for me in every way, especially with that homage to Death in 'The Origin of Primal Expression.'

finally watched the video for the title track, was pretty blown away tbh. they made a real texture, rather than just stale tech for the sake of it. the video itself is awesome too

This is a really good album, for now i give it a 4.5 but I 'm pretty sure it will go down to a 4 after the hype is gone. However some person need to be more when it comes to tech death

Both Focus and Traced In Air slay this. I agree with Essence, the Cynic-worship is pretty blatant and not as well done. But hey, I'm not a fan of tech death so I don't think that meshing of jazz-y influences with a more modern variant would strike me anyway. This did have a few cool moments though.

my least favorite part of cynic was when they had jazz interludes, vocoder usage, complicated guitar passages and contrasting pretty stuff with growly stuff all in a technical package

edit: hey wait a second

Yeah this is def more than just Cynic worship. I'm getting hints of Anata, Gorod and Beyond Creation, as well.

What really stands out on this is the production. I also think it as more "feelings" than focus, but sometimes some tracks seem weaker than the previous one. Still this is solid.
