Haven't had the chance to listen to the album yet. Great review nevertheless.

This has some really really awful drum production. Haven't listened to much more than the first few songs

@Omair Hehe, why not? This left a sour enough taste for me to seek out the new Avantasia album and enjoy the hell out of that.

First listen and I like it. It does feel like it lasts forever but it's enjoyable. I get a few Metropolis Pt. 2 vibes which is always a good thing.

I really do feel like people are overhating this. So what if it's 2 hours, you're listening to Dream Theater for crying out loud, what else were you expecting?

The album does has it's fair share of flaws but I think it's really well executed for what it is.

@Toondude I consider myself one of the DT defenders here, went through their discography and the only two albums I didn't like were their debut and Falling Into Infinity (Systematic Chaos is down there, but I enjoy parts of it more than the other two). I still insist that the other two Mangini albums are solid, particularly ADToE. But this is such a struggle to get through, and it didn't feel like an important step for the band, but rather a whimsical endeavor. Trust me, I'd love to be spewing praise for this album like it was Awake, and if you like it then I'm honestly jealous, because DT remain my current favorite band, despite my frustrations with this album.

It's probably that I'm more into cheesier shit than most people I guess.

I understand why people wouldn't like this for the most part, but some of these complaints feel more like whining, particularly on Mangini's part. The guy really gets WAY too much flak all because "he's not as good as Partnoy".

I don't think I've ever seen a ratings chart quite like this one. From 1 to 5, every single possible rating has roughly 20 votes. Bizarre

If Portnoy was playing on here, almost nobody would complain. My main beef regarding this one, is that it lacks the soul of older DT material. It feels like a very well executed piece of music but where's the extra element that would surprise me?
