Listened to this twice and had no desire to hear anything on it again, with the exception of New Americana. Might have to drop it to a 2, but that would mean listening to it again to evaluate and...idgaf

I dunno, this just sounded hollow to my ears. Her voice doesn't have a whole lot of personality going for it and about a good chunk of the record lacks staying power - and that's me putting it lightly, by the by. The album's not totally unlistenable, but man is there ever room for improvement.
Nice work on the rev, Green.

Good call on the "We are the new Americana...Biggie & Nirvana...raised on legal marijuana" discrepancy. Definitely separate times, and I doubt most of today's high schoolers can name a Nirvana song outside of "Teen Spirit," if that, and all the stuff they listen to these days is a rejection of Nirvana even if they are indebted to it.
Yeah, the biggest drag on this is all the contradictions. Railing against the 1%, but does she not realize with this little CD, she's well on her way becoming one.

Pos'd by the way, though I'd give the album a little more worth as it's an album that captures the mindset of a millennial in 2015 perfectly.

''I doubt most of today's high schoolers can name a Nirvana song outside of "Teen Spirit," ''
Reconsider your doubts. Most people can name several of theirs and it's no different for high-schoolers, in fact many would likely name a load of B-sides I've never heard of.
But yeah the lyric is awful and cringy, worst track on here.
''complete garbage''
It ain't complete garbage, Ghost and Colors save it from that.

for what it is, it's pretty g0000d. I mean it's clear she has no substance and her whole image is pandering to the youth today, edgy, yeah man. It's harmless and well-done to a degree, not something to over analyse, something to bump, something to sing along to. halsey man, aint gonna be winning grammys, but my 4 rating ok. It's a high 3 in reality...perhapS

How is something with zero substance good? Even mindless "bumping" songs have substance in the sense that they're capable of letting you jam out.

Another in the long line of female singers trying their hands at indie/electro-pop, Ashley Frangipane - under the moniker of Halsey - shows potential on her debut LP 'Badlands'. Influenced by the likes of Lorde & Lana Del Rey, the 20 year old singer-songwriter owns a mature set of pipes which initially attracts & impresses. Utilizing numerous producers, the synths & beats occassionally stand out, but aren't exactly groundbreaking. The lyrics & hooks are also inconsistent, while there's something a little too unengaging about this front-loaded record. There's enough here to suggest room for improvement though. Recommended Tracks: Drive, New Americana, Roman Holiday & Castle.
