I only know singles by the kinks, which are good, how does an entire album hold up, interested in what is their best complete album, this sounds pretty complete to me

I think a lot of guys would suggest The Village Green Preservation Society but my favorite is Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround. Instrumentally and lyrically it's brilliant.

it's pretty impossible for me to pick my very favorite kinks record, I go back and forth too often with them. all I can say is they have a handful of albums that hold up extremely well outside of the singles.
I think Lola vs. Powerman is a definite highlight as well though. it's a concept album and more creative than this one or village green. same goes for Arthur (or the decline and fall of the british empire). I think Muswel Hillbillies is really underrated as well, but wouldn't start with that one

Yeah, I actually hadn't heard that song until I listened to this album either. But one of the greatest songs of all time for sure.

Great album but not the best kinks

great record! Every little song bears a distinctive influence (bossa nova on "No Return", Donovan-like psychedelia on "Lazy Old Sun"...) and Waterloo Sunset is the icing on the cake, one of the best pop songs ever. A thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Try to go out with David Watts
They try their best but can't succeed
For he is of pure and noble breed

Now that I've given this about 4 listens I gotta say: this is like the definition of a 4/5.
Not a mind-blowing album at all, but still VERY enjoyable with a ton of gems
