This is better than you say IMO. Hardly "an

exercise in atmosphere over song-writing".

Atmosphere is a product of songwriting.

I know what you're saying, I just completely disagree that this album can be described like that. Its atmosphere is almost entirely a product of the band's songwriting, the attributes you mention only serve as accents to what is going on instrumentally.

cap says exercises in atmosphere is songwriting

kyle says atmosphere is a product of songwriting

jac says the elements used to create the atmosphere were more concentrated than the songwriting

except an exercise in atmosphere is 'song-writing'

Not in this case. This is great but fuck, some of it just gets so lost in all genre hoping and "lack of song-writing". I've had this for quite some time and if you were to ask me to remember a particular part, I couldn't do it.

Sterility and lack of atmosphere thanks to production and expressionless playing is something modern metal is routinely criticised for, why can't it be the other way around?

Whoa, deep thoughts right there.

Good review! The first time I heard this I almost peed. The abstract and evil atmosphere this band creates is absolutely terrifying. It's hard to believe this is their debut full-length because it seems so unique and well thought-out.

being overly verbose and writing almost exclusively in metaphors does not make someone smarter

You're mixing threads. I don't care about synchronized headbanging I do care about readability of reviews.

But if you use the words "dissonant" or "atmospheric" in your reviews, it means you know your dm and metalz.
