same thing happened to mogwai, sleepmakeswaves, 65daysofstatic, and probably more post-rock bands that were good

added electronics and fucked it up

But there's barely any...

This album is great, going to see them Oct 31 in NY, can't wait for that show!

Holy shit. Featured. Thanks, it means a lot.

I'm planning on writing a review a week, aiming for new releases. Still need to clean up my writing - I've been called out on both my reviews for being too grandiloquent, which is true - but this is fun. I'll be sticking around.

Probably doing the new Perfume Genius on Friday, depends on how I feel.

Hi there, I never comment on this site, but your writing intrigued me (I actually only came here for an album tracklist, and your review was on the front page).

Your first sentence is actually quite symptomatic of your writing issues. You're a decent writer, don't get me wrong, and I think you remind me of myself when I was at a sort of midway point in my writing where I had learned to write a cohesive argument but was want to sludge away into wordy, romanticist musings.

Case in point, your first sentence.

There is a beauty to decay, the gentle warmth of entropy that welcomes those who find themselves lost in it.

Okay, first part of the sentence is granted, there can indeed a beauty in decay--hell a whole tradition of philosophy and cultural critique has obsessed over this--but that second part is not actually saying anything. "The gentle warmth of entropy"? what does that ACTUALLY mean? I think sometimes you tend to the side of abstraction when much simpler language will do the trick. Abstraction can work, don't get me wrong, but this is an example of it going wrong.

This is a bit of template, I think, to some of the other issues of writing in this review, which otherwise shows lots of promise. Keep it up.

I hope that didn't come off as preachy? You can look through my old reviews to see how I developed over time
to understand what I'm talking about? I did the same things for a long time. It's a hard thing to figure
out, but you will.

Not preachy at all, you're right. It's a discipline thing, I'll do my best to correct it with the next review.

i'm quite liking this...there's something captivating about those minor, ambient, synthy sounds that start off at least half the tracks.

It's like someone threw in a text box on the cover using MS Paint and forgot to make it transparent.

fantastic review btw

also, I'm thinking right now that this might be their best work yet. the first half of this is so freaking strong, and the second half is really growing on me.

Because I think you have a lot of potential here I'm also going to levy a small bit of advice. I know I don't have one of those nifty tags but take from this what you will.

From a technical standpoint, 90% of your sentences have the same structure. You make a point, describe, describe, describe, describe. The commas make your thoughts gallop a bit and it gets distracting. I'd experiment with different sentence structures and overall just try to use less commas. While it may look flashy coming up with all these different ways of describing things, it doesn't increase how well you drive home your point. Most of the time a single perfect description can be loads more effective than multiple similar-words-saying-the-same-thing, connected by commas, not really saying much else, or bringing anything new to the table (see?).

Again, keep up the writing, you've got the groundwork.
