i hate the 12345 thing, though

this whole album kinda feels like a departure from everything they've done in the past

Pretty disappointing album.

Might try to review it. It's nothing like the Switchfoot I know and love but right now I'm trying to determine if it's good or just inoffensive background noise.
Oh!Gravity will always be their best though.

I want to review it a 2.5 but I have too much upcoming stuff to do (Young the Giant, Beware of
Darkness, Foster the People, Taking Back Sunday, Neon Trees) that this is the least of my worries
Besides half of those will probably be < 2.5 anyways

who we are, in the fever of our youth
who we are, we got nothing left to lose
who we are who we are

I woke up as before
But the gold was gone
My wife was at the door
With her night robe on
My heart beat once or twice
And life flooded my veins
Everything had changed
My lungs had found their voice
And what was once routine
And what was once routine was now the perfect joy
what happened to that
like, I get that they've still got at least one foot in the contemporary Christian market and that kind of cripples the lyrical depth immediately, and yeah, that above sample isn't like mewithoutYou-tier deep, but still...

I always thought Oh Gravity was one of their weakest albums....
The lyrics on Hello Hurricane and Vice Verses are so great (albums, not songs).

Killer review. Dug the album, but the film was phenomenal. Switchfoot always gives me those good times nostalgic vibes, so I'm usually inclined to enjoy anything they put out.

Nothing is sound is better than Oh! Gravity. I like Oh! Gravity too but it is way too inconsistent to beat Nothing Is Sound.

Nothing is Sound is a close second, but I think Oh!Gravity's diversity works in its favor.
Brown, listen to it again...so much more energy and passion than their more recent stuff. Vice Verses has some great moments (the second half) but also some of the band's worst songs to date (the first half).

it ages well
but yeah i gotta review this, with each listen i just get madder at how far this band has fallen
|

They're even more youth group appealing now than they were 10 years ago. I still gotta see the movie though and I've heard good things.

Seeing the film made this album a thousand times better.

yeah i agree. I made sure to note that in the review. This seriously works best as the film's soundtrack.
and Projectfreak, I'll have to give oh! Gravity another listen. i will admit it's the album i've listened to the least since TBL. (i didnt get into switchfoot until i saw them at Lollapalooza right when hello hurricane came out, which is still one my favorite all-time albums from any band).
|

Hello Hurricane was my first album from this band and probably my second favorite of theirs. Has only one or two tracks that keeps it from toping NIS.

Debuted #6 on Billboard with first-week sales roughly equal to Hello Hurricane. I am not sure how record sales have trended in the last four years, however. I would assume down?
|
| |
Yeah album sales have sunk, but that album also came out in November which is much more competetive than the second week of January.
