"The one thing that raised my eyebrow was "addition to... increasing discography." Sort of redundant but its whatev"

I rarely get a summary right. I had nothing in my head besides that sentence lol.

Never got into this band, but I do strongly dislike that "Take a Picture" song that got them famous back in the day.

Great review; I definitely want to check this out now.

Thanks. Take A Picture isn't a bad song, but it's overplayed. Nevertheless, their catalog is a lot heavier than that song. This is a great record to start getting into them. Also, check out The Trouble With Angels and Title Of Record.

@FromDaHood - I'm not too happy with it myself, but I can't think of anything better. If you got any suggestion, I'm open to it.

Yeah, I listened to the first half of this last night, and Take A Picture does not seem like a great representation of their overall sound. I liked what I heard, but there was a few spots where his vocals sounded off compared to the other songs.

I love Surprise. It's mainstream and polished but it's catchy as fuck and a great summer tune.

Surprise is their best ballad since Take A Picture.

"First You Break It" is the catchiest thing they've made in ages. "Surprise" is a good ballad, but that one is just leagues above it for me.

Sadly I can't agree with this review wholesomely. I was a big Filter fan since the Short Bus and Filter I use to know had angst with a lot to say and nihilistic attitude which was the reflection of my youth character.

With this latest edition Filter goes up to a route of "ooooh oooooh's", trendy production and sounds which I would never expect from Filter with the safety belt buckled on to tight and with far too uplifting and optimistic vibe (Which isn't bad per se, but not with Filter).

It's like Tool would go and start doing sounds like 30 sec to Mars. It doesn't feel 'natural', does it..

The only song which sound like Filter in prime times is 'Take That Knife Out Of My Back."

really? I think this is the most "dark" they have sounded in a long time, hell if anything its a follow up to short bus lyrically and musically through most of the record. I wouldnt say Patrick was ever nihilistic though, his lyrics have mostly been about damaged people, politics, dysfunctional relationships and abuse (substance, personal), never got a "who cares about anything" vibe from them
