EP is good considering I can't really get into grindcore
which is weird, since I like hardcore, crust, powerviolence, stuff like that
| | | yeah its maybe the best album of all time idk
| | | I wish this album wasn't so lengthy it's difficult to get through the whole thing in one sitting.
| | |
can you elaborate a bit on how I come off as someone just getting into grind?
there are heaps of examples in the interview - i'll mention a few of them
t’s insanely fast, insanely heavy
yes we know, this is grind
metallic-grindcore fury
what is 'metallic-grindcore'
making the riff almost resemble the intro to an epic post-metal song
no
from the technical, palm-muted insanity of the rest of the riffs
i think there was a discussion about this in one of the other reviews - this is not technical. fast =/= technical
just overall the review stinks of naivity, at least in terms of how you describe the music and the genre. that's the vvibe i get anyway.

So happy to see love for this band now. Been a huge fan since their debut.

"yes we know, this is grind"
Alright, you got me there. But just for the record, all I was trying to do was name off some traits of the band/things they do particularly well. I mean, grind is typically (well, I guess virtually all the time) fast and heavy, but that doesn't make the the quality of a particular band's speed and heaviness less worth mentioning.
"what is 'metallic-grindcore'"
I meant that it was grindcore with some metal-esque riffs every now and then. I've seen the term "metallic hardcore" plenty of times, so I just figured people would know what I meant by that.
"no"
Come on, man, you don't hear that? Just that sinister, brooding, feedback-y thing...it felt pretty Old Man Gloom-y to me. Just that riff, though.
"this is not technical. fast =/= technical"
I never said fast = technical, I said technical because this is technical. I mean, it's not like...Brain Drill or anything lol, but it is fairly technical.

grindcore by definition has metal-esque riffs, so adding metallic in front of the label is redundant

I'm not making any assertions on what I heard, just saying that the description you use irks me

no this is not fairly technical. this is pretty standard in terms of technicality for the genre, and I made the fast=/=technical statement because a lot of people mistake the speed for technicality, which is what I assume has happened here

Riffs like the one at :36 in "Perpetual Extinction"? That's typical for grind? That riff sounds like it's straight out of an At the Gates song.
| | | if you're asking me, then the point i made about you coming off like you don't know much about the genre is as valid as ever
i'm not trying to pick on you mate, i just said what i thought about the review. it's not badly written, i just wasn't too fond of the way you described the record.
| | | Rasputin, your criticisms tend to send the typical user to the burn ward.
| | | As for the review itself, I had more of a problem with the informal nature of parts of it, like the first paragraph and this sentence:
Oh, what a glorious decision that was.
They're bordering too much on the fanboy end.
Otherwise, a concise review - as it should be, I guess, haha.

"if you're asking me..."
No, it was a rhetorical question/statement. I figured you'd agree with me l ol
and @Vesper,
"I had more of a problem with the informal nature of parts of it,"
That's kind of my thing. Very conversational. It's just sort of what flows out of me as I write. Although, this review isn't the best example of my balancing a conversational tone with like, really good content. Or, better than this one, anyway lol
| | | you can still be informal without being over the top. while a lot of what I write is mostly formal, occasional reviews and particularly stuff i write for my zine is very conversational. maybe just work on it. i would advise against simply saying stuff like 'it's so amazing' etc etc (not that you did, just giving an example).
