idk, Conqueror just grabbed me a bit more than this one did.
Silver is still better than both of them, though

The whole sound they go for on this is great, mad I never tried this before. The shoe-gazey aspect and 100% clean vocals makes it so even my gf could kinda get into this.

This was recently remixed and remastered on vinyl. It came w/a digital download for the new mix/master. IMO, it's a HUGE improvement sonically, especially the drums. Overall it sounds less "under-recorded" for lack of a better term. The original for me is like a 3.5, but this new version's most definitely a 4.

might have to check that remaster out or even try and get a copy but I never had a problem with the way it sounds to begin with

As far as I know, the remaster hasn't been released digitally yet but eventually, it'll be up on Bandcamp. Initially, it was the drums that threw me off cause it felt like a real drummer but it sounded programmed. Eventually, I looked past it cause the songs themselves I thought were great. The new version has the drums sounding more "human" for lack of a better word.

Not sure how I feel about the remaster... I feel like a lot of the songs have been significantly twisted especially the vocals and I can't say it's a positive

Well...I guess it's sort of a tit for tat. The drums (well just the snare really) on the original sounded too buried in the mix but the vocals were placed in the mix. The remaster has the drums mixed better while the vocals are more audible which reveals Broaderick's well known spotty clean vocal prowess (let's face it, he's not a great clean vocalist but I find the sincerity in how he sings his cleans to be admirable and likable enough to cancel it out). Also, the programmed percussion at the start of Fools is now absent in the remaster.
Aside from that though, I prefer the mix on the remaster on the principle that I think it has better instrumentation separation which in turn sounds more balanced and more "full" for lack of a better term. This was already a good album song-wise, I just thought the mix on the original fell a bit short for me and that the remaster was more to my liking, but hey more power to you if you prefer the original!

Just now I realized these were electronic drums, I just thought the drummer was pretty stark lol

One of the better Jesu records. Could be a bit shorter. I'd put this one right in line after Silver, the self-titled debut, and Conqueror, in that order.
One of the best artists of all time, Justin Broadrick is a musical god.
