Bring it on. Do u really want to argue that 2 9 minute unprecedented feats in punk against B A N A N A S?

I'm not saying that Gwen Stefani is better but they are roughly the same: easy pop music. They're not great breaking but not terrible. I'd give them both 3/5
American Idiot is solid but no masterpiece; they indulge in a lot of hackneyed songwriting methods:
1) thinly-veiled political rants against Bush/politics in general. the lyrics are very with-the-grain of mainstream society and offer little to no new perspectives on America.
2) much of the more "diverse" timbres of the songs- Eastern melodies, auxillary percussion, acoustic guitars- were already instilled from previous albums like Nimrod and Warning
3) the chord progressions and melodies are still virtually the same from Dookie.
4) for a pop-punk album it's very self-indulgent and pretentious at times; "rock operas" are usually pretty expendable in general, very few can actually carry their weight.
5) the storyline is too basic of a narrative; there's little room for variation, expansion or individual re-interpretation.
anyways that's my basic criticism for it.

plenty of bands have released 5 singles now that I think about it, including king of all bands Smashing Pumpkins (both Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie)
except each single sounded different and wasn't pointlessly pretentious. m/ And about half of them didn't get played anywhere
I wonder if Japanese people find Stefani's slaves- err- Harajuku Girls demeaning

Japanese Slaves...lolz
Yeah, that's because Green Day have no clue what they are doing, at all. Gwen does, and I happen to like her much, much more than post-Dookie Green Day.
Leave it to you to bring up Green Day in just about every review.
Green Day's what I know, and it's a pretty interesting point. So Green Day makes a bazillion dollars with an amazing album and they don't know what they're doing? Plus Green Day's what I know, and they are one of the biggest acts of 05, right up there with Stefani. If I make a point of something I know, you don't have to make me sound like a geeky prick.

Down Boy, all I tried to do was make a point. I'm not going to apologize, but I'm not going to deal with this.

by the way MusicOfficial, I "brought it on". if you care to make a rebuttal at my comment than do so in one of the American Idiot reviews.
|

stefani is musically untalented and her music applies to the mindless generations. "take a chance u stupid ho" is something a child would think of, which also goes for "this S-hit is bananas" stupidity that she tries to pull off.
Of course, thats just the way I feel
Good review, i beg to differ on some thoughts

can we please not act like 3 year olds, there's a difference in musical opinion here, the past few comments have been extremely unproductive, and guys, cool it, the review is good, these are opinions, and should be respected as such
just as an aside, gwen's not bad but no doubt > gwen solo
now, if anything else goes astray in this i WILL report this to a mod again and politely ask for this to be deleted

That's weird, I could swear I commented in this yesterday.
Why do my comments get erased and not the worthless ones?

I like a few of the singles I've heard from this album. I thought What Are Your Waiting For was an awesome song until I realised that one of the melodies was pretty much exactly the same as Weezer's Hashpipe. Still a good song, though.

Because when Green Day does it they're selling out with countless ballads. I think that the quality of her voice really depends on her producer.

I can count them. 1.

Try two. Do you really think they didn't release "Wake Me Up..." because of Boulevard's commercial success? I'm not saying that it's Green Day's fault, it's very likely it was their label's. But may we please stop talking about Green Day, however happy I am that my review spawned this many arguments. I like causing problems.

Boulevard is not a ballad by any stretch of the imagination.
And Gwen Stefani's too poular and superficial for her own good.

Okay, at least mid-tempo. And I was under the impression that Green Day sold three times as much as Gwen's album?
|
| |
yes. What I mean by popular is that she seems like the brainless popular girl in school who everyone loves.

That was very unpolite, but then you haven't read much of her work/interviews, have you?
First of all, I hate to say it, but Dookie was boring. Green Day's newer stuff is more interesting. And Billie Joe seems like the brainless, popular pothead in school that can't put two sentences together without interjecting the word "like".
I don't see why she deserves a rating under a three; just the fact that her music is something vaguely different in this world of Nirvana rip-offs (don't worry, I loathe Nirvana too) would qualify her for a better rating than some people are giving her. This Message Edited On 11.20.05
