Just a little better (say 0.1-0.2), but they are different & I can see why people would prefer one over the other.

I don't think this is an album you can hate (like 'Day & Age' could have been for some), but it can prompt indifference and/or disappointment.

Wasn't a huge fan of Crossfire at first but I love it now, best part is when the bass first kicks in.

Yep, 'Crossfire' is a real grower. And totally agree about the bass. I initially did not have the words "bass-driven" in the review, but threw it in at the last moment.

this is just like a very watered down version of what arcade fire were doing a long time ago. heard playing with fire and listened to a few more - i do not like the killers whatsoever so perhaps that was a bias, just seemed extremely boring. good review though dave

Thanks IAJP.

I am unsure of any kind of Arcade Fire comparison tbh. I mean, what Arcade Fire were doing a long time ago was 'Funeral' which was arguably the album of last decade... I wouldn't compare any album to 'Funeral' unless there is an obvious reason for it.

just seems to me the content (isolation, escape and being free and aware of youth) is very similar (although there is obviously no copyright on content) and delivered in a pretty similar laconic, self aware and sort of happily helpless way to arcade fire. dunno, don't know why i justify my dislike for the killers i feel like this in front of a lot of my friends who absolutely love everything they, and in turn he has ever done..

This is kind of what I was afraid of. I'm not sure if I want to listen yet. I'm liking that intro paragraph.

Hmm, can't say I'm with you on that comparison. 'Funeral' is much more personal; talking about family, life, death, etc... But that's the great thing about song lyrics; they can be interpreted differently by separate people.

As for disliking The Killers, my guess (going by your taste in older music) is that you may feel they're ripping off a few groups from the 70's & 80's. Just a guess though.

haha yeah man you could very well be right there, i see a lot of new order in them which isn't a bad thing, i just think i've heard (against my will) every track off hot fuss at some point. for example, i worked in a shop where there was a constant playlist each day and 2 tracks on it were off hot fuss..mr. brightside is always on in nightclubs and pubs i go to..a few of my mates ringtones are off it, and my mates girlfriend literally loves them..they seem to be in my life a lot more than they deserve to be, considering i find 'em pretty average..

if that makes sense! haha..i seem to be able to ignore and not criticize a lot of music, but the killers seem to have crowbarred their way into my life and subconscious..i even find myself singing or humming stuff off hot fuss and i don't remember sitting down to listen to it! it's invasive! haha.

Thanks Mike. And yeah, you're not missing much by holding off on listening to this.

Hey IAJP, look over your shoulder... I think it's one of The Killers stalking you... with a crowbar in their hand.

I adore "Crossfire". I've yet to listen to this all the way through, but what I heard felt good to me.
