i mean it's cool that it exists, as a very clear transition from the JD sound to what would become definitive New Order, but almost everything I really like from this era isn't actually on the album (Ceremony, Everything's Gone Green Temptation, etc)

Listening now I am digging it more on its own merits than I probably ever have before - queued up Complete Music to start playing right after it so I could spin my two least-listened to N.O. albums back to back - i'm sure the 30+ year gap between the two will result in a welcome "headfuck" as well

As a very big post-punk fan I should have checked out this album much earlier, not today. Also it's from 1981 one of my favourite years of that genre.

Great song structures, never focused on predictable 3 chorus songs, very nice synth sounds, it's a typical post-punk album, that's what I like. I don't have other albums of them, but as I also like british new wave & synthpop I am sure I would like their 1983 album.

Congratulations to New Order!

Their album Movement is featured in my new list, my top 100 for summer depression (I often have when it's too hot which makes me lethargic and feel negative) and the album is on #11.

In my older list, official albums list for quarantine it even was on #7!

I wish they can read that and Movement really deserves all the praise it gets or would get. A typical post-punk album of one of my absolute favourite years, 1981.

Part of me wants to pick on y87arrow a bit, but he's the only one bumping the good stuff.

Feeling conflicted.

And yes, this is uber good.

Super underrated among their discography. The closet twink in me can’t resist the feel-good buoyancy of PC&L, but this is easily my second favorite NO album. And I love how perfectly and effortlessly it bridges the gap between Joy Division and New Order. Can’t believe so many people put this among the bottom-half of their output.

Yeah, I don't really get it. This is as good as any joy division album and my fave new order album.

Used to be Power, but this grew on me like nothing else.

I could see that happening with time. This is just so damn consistent. Every song is excellent.

it's not a bad album but anyone who ranks it highly I assume doesn't really like New Order so much as they've played the Joy Division stuff too much & are wanting a little more

at least we can all (or most) seem to agree on Substance being an amazing encapsulation of at least the first stretch of their career

i don't have time for people who act like there was nothing good after Technique, though. no time at all!
