Review is good but:

- exclamation marks make me cringe
- i still don't really know why this is a 5 and not a 4.5

And I think this album is great but... yeah, it's just enough of a statement or affecting record to go higher than I have it. The only moment in the whole album that makes me really feel anything is at the end of Curbside Goodbye, when he says, "Is this the better off that you meant?" That's a flawless moment; the rest of the album is permanently enjoyable and occasionally amazing but just not shiver-inducing in any way.

I don't about a 5, but a 4.5 might be just what the doctor ordered.

Ok, what the hell happened to Sputnik over the past 16 hours? I swear that as soon as I posted this, the site crashed. My reviews are clearly too over-powering for this website! ;-)

Ok, let's trudge through some comments for the lols:

"Confucius said a lot of things..." True. Only 1 thing this year though: "Emery recorded the album of the year"

"daveyboy you are enforcing our brains to implode from your superfluous quotes." Damn it Piglet, how did you find out why I'm here?

"This is a really really good review, for a really really good album!" Thanks Dreamsofffew.

"No Butchers Mouth for recommended?" I knew I should have just left it at "All of them".

"its actually funny you wrote a review in this style..." Rosco, did you have confucious quotes for Will Smith too?

"turns out Davey was right about something." Oh very funny... Last year, confucious said "Davey never wrong"

"oh and post-hardcore's best ever...lol?" All 5 reviews need a huge hype statement that may or may not be 100% factual.

"but if this is better than RoC or IoS or WaT i will be surprised" I need an abbreviation dictionary for RoC. Early Thrice doesn't do it for me. Vheissu on the other hand... I presume WaT is 'War All The Time'? If so, 'Full Collapse' is better.

I think where this album stands out in terms of the post-hardcore genre is its accessibility. I could give this to someone who hated screaming vocals/post-hardcore & they would like a significant portion of it. I may be in the minority, but I feel it's a real skill to make what is essentially a non-mainstream genre so accessible.

"It's all about Pimp Chewie" Agreed.

"i still don't really know why this is a 5 and not a 4.5" Good point. I had it at a 4.5 since it's release. I think what tipped it over to a 5 was (a) the fact that it still seemed so fresh when I got back to it, (b) I personally enjoy it so much & (c) there isn't one song I do not like.

"The only moment in the whole album that makes me really feel anything..." I know where you're coming from Adam... In fact, I could see what you were trying to say on your sound-off too. But I personally think there are many moments that are affecting (the end of 'Smile', the chorus of 'Sin', the start of 'Churches', the chorus of 'Piggy' even). But I guess that's where personal taste, experiences, etc... comes into it.

"not quite the best of the year but a great album for a band that i thought lost their groove with their last album" Great to hear that you liked it so much Jeff.

"Awesome review for a great album." Thanks Groink. You any relation to Atrink.

"I'm gonna have to respectively disagree." As long as it's with respect Brandon, I can take it. Plus, a 3.5 rating is still strong.

"but yesssssss, davey i love you for this." Don't make me change my rating just to avoid your love fti.

robertsona, grammar doesn't count when you're gushing over an album.

Damn it, what happened to that new Sputnik thing where you could block a user from your reviews. I'm sure I did it correctly to keep Waior out.

Rosco, did you have confucious quotes for Will Smith too?

Naww they were pretty much all from the man himself. Still not seeing you on much; you still suffering from porn related problems or are you just bored of us?

This is definitely not the best post-hardcore album ever. Not by a long shot.

"Made my list!" Should be on everyones.

"never thought i'd see this titled album of 2009, but hell, it's pretty damn good anyway." Neither did I. And let me just clarify something; I'm not the hugest fan of the band. The potential has always been there, but their first 2 albums felt incomplete to me.

"davey, this is a really, really good review man." thanks fti. A 5 is never easy to write.

"the question is still better" Obviously, I disagree. If I had to split them, I actually prefer their debut over 'The Question'.

"RoC = Relationship of Command" Ahh, can't comment. Haven't heard it.

"Naww they were pretty much all from the man himself." The theme song from Fresh Prince of Bel Air surely would have made one giant quote. Haha.

"Still not seeing you on much; you still suffering from porn related problems or are you just bored of us?" A combination of the former & a mad rush to listen to as many albums of '09 for year-end purposes (Thrice, Biffy, TCVultures, 30 Secs, Passion Pit, Animal Collective, Say Anything, Raekwon). I'm on music overload.

"This is definitely not the best post-hardcore album ever. Not by a long shot." Yeah, it is. Confucious say "Davey never wrong".
