i'd also like to point out before forming a solid opinion on this album it should be heard from a source with good sound, not a stream, really. or poorly transcoded rip. the album sounds great and has lots of nuances which don't come through in streams or compromised rips

for the couple of users who have thus far rated this recording "awful" i would be interested in knowing the reasoning. particularly that of NeoOrder, who liked How To Dismantle An Atomic bomb and seems to have musical tastes which are open and diverse to some degree
while i understand music is heard differently by all of us and is highly subjective, it can also be objective to some degree. songwriting, musicianship, performance, production. all these things can be judged in a way where one might say "not for me" or "i don't think its that great" but we can still see our way to a fair, unbiased opinion
i can see how someone might find this a "meh" album....or depending on who you are even a poor one if it suits your POV. but a rating of 1 would suggest it is without argument unadulterated trash....completely worthless and void of any artistic, creative, or even commercial merit
for someone like me who hears it as "excellent" i can imagine it being less so to others. a 3.5 would be fair. or a 3.0 or even a 2.5, signifying something which is painfully average. but even if i didn't like it i'd be hard pressed to justify a rating of 1
so i am curious...for those who think it a 1...why do you think so? or even a 1.5?
edit: my actual rating is a 4 btw. not the above rated 4.5. that was my initial rating which has since been changed, as is reflected in the reviewThis Message Edited On 02.25.09

i'm very surprised at these ratings
the only song im really not in love with on this album is the title track
magnificent is ridiculously awesome, unknown caller is ridiculously awesome, breathe is incredibly awesome, stand up comedy has a terrific beat. cedars is very moving if your in the chill mood.
this album really needs some more love

i must admit that i'm pretty impressed with this album
it's really good...though i can't stand "Get On Your Boots"

Sorry but these guys haven't released a good album since 'All You Can't Leave Behind' and even that
had it's share of weak tracks.
People overhype this band and accept mediocre albums as 'Great'. I love U2 but they should be
retired by now.
Score is for the track 'Magnificent', rest of it can burn reallyThis Message Edited On 02.25.09

i honestly don't hear the mediocrity. i hear an album full of good songs and interesting sounds. thoughtful lyrics, good melodies, sounds great
All That You Can't Leave Behind was very good, but should they be expected to live up to such a high standard each time out? and of course you will find many detractors for that album, also. not to say its a perfect album. i can pluck my own...um....least fave tracks from that album. but even if i mention them others will have their own, and might favor the ones i dislike somewhat. which is part of what makes the band so interesting to me
i do think the hype works against them. they have a long and storied history, and might be the band who way back when are most responsible for bringing alternative rock kicking and screaming into the mainstream. when it was truly alternative. and they have continued down their own path while taking from music they love such as American R&B and ambient and electronica along the way. working with Brian Eno (an unlikely pairing if ever their was one) and in all honesty being one of the more original rock bands to ever emerge from anywhere. the sound, the style, the songs. U2 are a group that is unique. and not in a bad way. i thought this was supposed to be a positive thing in rock music? but apparently for many it just doesn't click on any level. even an intellectual one. which puzzles me tbh

Universal music group is on steroids. I;m seeing commercials for this album everywhere, even espn. i'm sure it's alienating alot of people... especially the metal heads who keep rating this album 1's and 2's.
also, if your gonna rate the joshua tree a 1, please just stick to your metal, dont torture yourself with this albumThis Message Edited On 02.25.09

Maybe a quite nerdy question, but, how can I write reviews ? Do I must be in a special Group of people or I'm just to dumb to find that button ?
Thanks for every serious answer
