Very true Steerpike,
However, if it sounds good to me, I dont care who they ripped off. Especially if they try to bring back some old Metallica because Metallica hasnt done anything good since And Justice for All........!

They've done some good, unfortunately it hasn't been great. That's my take on it. In regards to the record, blows.

I like how Trivium did the thrash thing, but they didnt have to cheat off Metallica. Well, thats what Ive heard they did, at least.

Trivium blows. What little respect I had for them with "Ascendancy" has been pissed away with this pile of garbage. Even the name Trivium disgusts me now, haha.

Decent review. Isn't Heafy now suggesting that this isn't really the masterpiece he said it would be? Cause thats just...(Fill in the blank)

That's the thing, though. We don't need another Metallica. I love The Beatles, but we don't need another of them. In a way, what you're saying is analogous to going through a bad break-up, and then going and dating someone who's acting like a clone of your ex.
Granted, that comparison is a little obtuse, but I think you get the message.
Cause thats just...(Fill in the blank)
The closest he's come yet to humility.

ive officially lowered my rating to 3.5!!
dear trivium,
please go back the days of ascendancy. the crusade is still good but if it wasnt for a couple really good songs then it wouldve been a letdown for me. youre pushing your luck of keeping a 3.5. but thanks for being the coolest guys when i met you and getting to chill at a huge mansion...good times good times

Steerpike: hahahah your analogies always humour me. When you say "We don't need another Metallica", are you speaking on behalf of everyone? I enjoy how they picked up where Metallica left off. I dont care if they are a clone or not, Metallica 'now' fails at what Trivium do better. Thats just my opinion on the matter, just so we dont start one of those retarded arguments about whos opinion is right or wrong. Yours and everyone elses opinion is highly respected by me.

Although I dislike Trivium a lot, I agree they've been doing better then Metallica since... Trivium formed...

I'm speaking as a music fan. We don't need someone to pick up where Metallica left off. That just causes stagnation.

This marks the beginning of the 50 page war between Steerpike and those who oppose.
Nah, that won't happen. He's obviously intelligent enough to use proper grammar, which means he's unlikely to say anything stupid enough to really get me started.

You speak the truth Steepike! Stagnation was a good word to describe what Trivium is 'some what' driving into the ground (the whole thrash movement that Metallica built up in the eighties). This is kind of a downer, I will admit, because Metallica did it so much better. Still, I just have a soft spot for this band, couldnt tell you why either.

isn't picking up where someone left off ...evolution? I'm lost here... If I pick someone's work where they left off I'm doing some more, not just looking at it !
|

If you pick up where someone left off and add to what they did, then it's evolution. But if you pick up where they left off and keep doing what they were doing, then it's like Steerpike said: "stagnation".

Has anyone noticed that he recommended the song 'Broken One' and that's not on the album?
what ****? lol
On another note the guitar work is decent, Matt and Corey can certainly solo (They've proven that 30 times, Matt said in an interview there were 30 (31?) solos on the album) but the riffs just plain suck and he either needs to stop doing the vocals or start screaming again. His scream was bad but not as bad as this and trying to sound like Metallica? Why? It won't sell cause people will just go buy Master Of Puppets instead of this and save about 10 bucks (I paid 8 for Master Of Puppets when I was 10).

Yup, 30 some solos on the album and not a one of them is original or interesting, and 90% of them are on the last song, which should have been cut completeley
|
| |
Agreed. Matt and Corey went for complete shreding and only certain people can pull that off (Steve Vai, Joe Satarini, Yngwie Malmstine, Paul gilbert, etc.) everything just seems sloppy and put together like a 12 year old did it. If trivium re-did Ascendancy and fine tuned it so it was cleaner, and the screaming was handeled by someone else or matt improved it Trivium would be much better. But then again theres just better bands (Killswitch Enage, Protest The Hero, The Acacia Strain, etc.). What do you think they should do with their sound?
