Pretty kickass cd. Just ordered act 2, can't wait. And what's wrong with TReoS? Between the Heart and the Synapse is one of my favorite cds ever. Love the way it all flows together and their lyrics were so sick. I'd rather casey stayed with them, but dear hunters good nonetheless...

The river north is alright. City escape is by far the coolest song, but as mentioned it just sounds like a big mars volta rip off

This is so much better than act II.

Act II is way better than this, just longer and less to-the-point. As in it needs more patience.

Great album. Very nostalgic for me.

I'm reminded of Coheed and Cambria when I see this whole album concept idea. However, I haven't ever found C+C as interesting as I would have hoped.
Maybe these guys will be more of my taste; it does sound like it varies a lot more.

Yeah, the whole concept is a lot like Coheed's for the simple fact that they both do concept albums. Coheed's more progressive than they are experimental. Maybe The Dear Hunter will be more up your alley.

ughhhhh the pimp and the priest is so good

this reads more like a 4

I'm ghetto, I'm on top of the game. This shit I'm pushin'; pure bassline muscle, I fuck up the whole dunk over. Denied Christic, ya seven foot sinner, saw my nuts in his face. OH SHIT - the crowd missed it, now the Nets have to regroup and call time out. I feel exhausted from the stomach up, I shit a rhyme out. Cobra on my hat spit a rhyme out. Nigerian queen feed the king diamond cereal. That some shit you won't even bring close to ya fuckin mouth. Golden dogs walk around the fuckin house, with navigation connected to ya bitch eyebrows.

So good. Probably their best. Anticipating colors eps.

I never could worship Coheed like some I know. The Dear Hunter's newer stuff off of the Color EPs instantly gripped me. I am starting here though.

Their best album, imo.

I love this album...I agree that the last two songs aren't early as good as everything before it but I can't call city escape a complete rip-off of the mars volta...save for the opening riff and that middle section where it all melts for a minute, it's pretty much groovy prog-pop to me.

City Escape is enough to warrant a 4 by itself. The Pimp and the Priest is...actually really, really good.

Casey Crescenzo, the former singer & multi-instrumentalist for The Receiving End of Sirens, branches out as the main force behind The Dear Hunter. Debut release 'Act I: The Lake South, The River North' is the beginning of an ambitiously epic concept series, which sees a multitude of musical styles near overwhelm listeners initially. From progressive to indie & from rock to jazz, this is a technically complex, diverse & rewarding experience which never ceases to surprise. That also means that some targets are missed on these overlong tracks, but it's always interesting. Recommended Tracks: City Escape, The Inquiry of Ms. Terri & 1878.

"kinda gay on first listen but it was background music so ill listen again eventually"
As with pretty much all of their releases, they can't be treated as background music. It's pretty immersive stuff.
