I have still yet to hear anything from this album - I appreciate the band but LaBrie just has a voice that can be quite hard to adjust to.

Yeah, I know, but I'm appreciating his voice more and more lately.

I hate LaBrie's voice and yet I love this album. His tone gets a little irritating on here but I think it's as painless as it's ever been.

Absolutely brilliant album. Definitely one of, if not my, favourite of all time.

Great review too!

(1999) "The Dance of Eternity" by Dream Theater - incorporates an incredible number of time signature changes (in order, each entry written once): 4/4, 7/8, 3/4, 13/16, 15/16, 17/16, 14/16, 5/4, 6/8, 2/4, 5/8, 11/4, 9/4, 7/16, 6/16, 5/16, 10/16, 9/8, 15/8, 12/16, 16/16 (3+3+3+3+2+2), 3/8.

Well, now we know why bands don't stick to 4/4 beats. =X

RPM is revolutions per minute. NPM is notes per minute. XD
I'm like a month late or something, but shouldn't it be BPM?

I used to be into these guys a couple of years ago. Now I've kinda lost interest.

I've known them for one year only...

Songs like Pull Me Under, Take The Time, Home, and The Root Of All Evil still get me going, though.

dream theater fucking pwns. i love every damn song by them and ive never gotten tired of them.

cant say that about any other band so DT wins.

Iron Maiden - 4 minute songs get easy to overlisten to. ill never get sick of the epics though.

Opeth - It gets really tiring to listen to. feels like a chore.

Metallica - they just dont do it for me... i really only like the pre-master of puppets stuff.

Megadeth - Dont like all their songs...

etc etc

Ever since I've read this review, I've been intrigued by the band (meaning the review's very well-written). Last week, I bought 5 dream theater CDs for the price of one (€ 20 over here), which was a real bargain, considering the fantastic musicianship and quality the CDs provide. For anyone interested, the package contains Images, Awake, Metropolis pt 2, Falling into infinity and Six Degrees of Turbulence. Can't get enough of this awesome band. What have I been listening to all my life... Lol. Well, better late than never I suppose. Style reminds me a bit of Porcupine Tree at times, but then again, it has a distinct character that sets it apart from everything I've ever heard.
