That is definitely dragged, but I love Backwards Marathon as well. The vocals really do it for me, there's something about his growl in that song that's absent in other songs.
But I'll say it again, the second half of Selkies is a favorite of mine :-). too good

But it didn't hypnotize me, it just really pissed me off, especially at first.

I'm sorry. Well other than that part, the opening vocals in All Bodies is basically the most badass shizz ever.

But you also didn't consider Converge metalcore, even though they clearly are. Or was that someone else?

All's fair in my reviews. Say what you will. :thumb:

Hah, I just thought it was you.
I still think they're definitely metalcore, it's just less obvious now.

But that's mostly because all the bands being branded as metalcore have almost zero 'core in their sound whatsoever.

I don't see what's so special about the opening vocals in All Bodies. The chorus in that song is much better

The opening vocals, along with the guitars and drums, are just plain crushing. I just love how heavy it is.

I wouldn't call them metalcore either, I would go with progressive metal. But awesome album either way. I'd like to see these guys live one day. I really hope they left victory.

Ordinarily I *hate* this kind of music, but for some reason BTBAM nail it perfectly. Selkies is a masterpiece.

this is probably my favorite album of all time, i simply can't get enough of it, there is not one song i don't like. This is one of the only albums that i can listen to without skipping a single track.
I'm completely shocked that, throughout the entire genre discussion, not once did anyone mention their death metal influences.
I basically agree with the review, nicely done. The Primer is my current addiction, but Backwards Marathon, All Bodies, and Selkies are other favorites, but as i said, every song is awesome.

they are still on victory. i have the anatomy of... in front of me right now. this band is great live too. they pretty much just stand there and melt your face off. i saw them open for dragonforce a few months back, they only played for 20 minutes and it felt like an eternity. i am convinced of their greatness, metalcore or not. it don't matter what you call it if it rocks!

Do you actually like Laser Speed or do you not consider it a part of this album. I don't consider it a part of the album. I often find myself skipping Roboturner sometimes too. Roboturner has some good sections in it, but it drags.

i actually even like laser speed, it's just a great way to show their jazz influence, it's also calming.

I can't see why it wouldn't be part of the album? Makes it a little more diverse to listen to as a whole.
