This never fully clicked with me but maybe I need to give it another chance. I mean, after The Mantle and Ashes I was too spoiled by this band. Releasing such monumental CDs in a row is nuts.
Faustian Echoes = The White >> This (in my memory)
And now thanks to this thread I found out they are back, wow... Let's just hope Serpent was a misstep and not a new direction.

Please, release new material in the vein of these two masterpieces!

the vanguard knows what's good. CD has never left my car since release and has led to some beautiful moments out in the wild

I feel like this album is slightly overlooked within their discog. Black Lake Niðstång is one of their best songs.

This one's always a weird one for me.
The internet at large jumped on this far more than their other stuff and it's pretty dang good, but lacks some of the secret sauce and magic that their earlier albums did. I struggle to see how you could place this over Ashes, Mantle, or Folklore. It's leagues better than Serpent, but I do agree with the criticisms levied in the 2.5 review of a lot of the songs meandering a bit and refusing to commit to the promise that they show (versus, say, Serpent's songs that completely lack that promise). I would take the White EP over this, but it's still good

I hated this album when it came out, it was just so dreary and self-indulgent after Ashes, but overtime it grew on me a lot. Transports me right back to winter of 2010

Mantle as best anything is a cute high school take and I am here for that level of porc

It feels like such a cliche thing to say, but I really do think all three of their first three LP's can take the top spot in their catalog depending on the day.
Marrow is a great addition, but not in the conversation for me. Serpent is cheeks

I honestly don't get the Serpent hate lol. I've always loved it. Not as much as the others but still.
