Would not call Alligator a major step down from what followed at all.. just a slightly different style. Still a masterpiece in its own right

Didn't anybody, didn't anybody tell you, didn't anybody tell you how to gracefully disappear in a room?

Doof not sure if you were responding to my comment or not, but I said it was almost as good as Alligator, not their best since Alligator. Like if I were to rank their albums it'd be Boxer>HV>>Alligator>SWB>>>TWFM>>>>>>>>Sad Songs, which is still 4/5

I feel the opposite about the production on the new joint, very thin and airy.. The last 3 albums had a warm lush sound.. you felt like having a good scotch.. the new one feels like sitting on the roof of your loft apartment.

We're all listening to a Vinyl rip so I can't comment on the production but I will say I think SWB might be their most cohesive album

I didn't try the singles. Was just gonna jam the whole album. Is it by the numbers National like this with a few electronics sprinkled in or a much different sound?

I'd say it's pretty distinctively different with classic National sprinkled in
