This guy used to write songs. These don't feel like songs anymore.

that's a bit of an exaggeration. easily 2/3 of the songs here are just straight up songs. 22M had a bigger problem with this imo

They're not songs, yet a 3.5 rating? Seems generous.
Perhaps you meant that the songs aren't fleshed out enough, which I'd agree to. They've obviously songs, but rarely do they fully explore an idea.

i basically give everything a 3 or 3.5 until i've listened to it ten times, then rerate. it's a good system.

also just because i said that doesn't mean i don't enjoy parts of it.

Er, that doesn't sound like a good system.
Why ignore basically the complete rating spectrum before listening a tenth time?

That's a really bad system lol

I might end up liking this more than 22A. There's a vulnerability and openness to it that reminds me of the s/t, which is their best imo

I definitely prefer this over 22AM, but in the sense of 3.5/10 in comparison to 2.5/10. Self-titled is definitely their best and the only one that I really return to. That one's a really great album, although I can definitely see why he wouldn't want to do more of that kind of music. The last two albums are not the way to go though. I prefer Volcano Choir by miles and miles.

First time I was bored. Second time I dug the hell out of it. Third time the second time made sense.
