Like dude, these guys are in their 60's and pumping out ambitious as hell material that still rules.

So much respect, up the irons m/

Defs agreed Pleb, and it's why they're my favourite band. Only other band of their age that can be as consistent is Rush, to me at least.

Don't get me wrong man, TFF was great but when this was announced to be like a 60+ minute album I was HUGELY skeptical.

How silly of me to challenge the masters, eh?

Exactly the same, I was both excited as fuck and skeptical about the double album thing, and ironically it ended up defying my expectations.

Now part of it was that I was at work when I listened to the album for the first time through the leak with my friend sending me the files through Google Drive, listening to volume 1 on my break and volume 2 on the way home, but what surprised me was just how accessible it is for a double album. Two discs with an average of 45 minutes per volume, with their current sound being more sprawling and proggish it's already a lot to take in so the format allows you to guiltlessly take a break, and let it sit. Of course over a year later I'm at the point where I can listen to the thing in one sitting but even then, the advantage allowed by the format is what makes it a stroke of genius.

I think it's a goddamn crime that a masterpiece such as Empire is only 18 minutes. It's just too fucking short. It transcends words such as "epic" and "ambitious" and it as much Iron fucking Maiden as it gets.

Funny thing is that there are only a handful (literally 5, I think) of songs written solely by Dickinson, 2 of which are on this album.

according to wiki, songs with only bruce writing credits are
revelations, flash of the blade, powerslave, bring your daughter, if eternity should fail, empire of the clouds
