Hopefully gonna finish my review on sunday when i actually get free time this weekend. Album is such a mess even though the music's probably better than what's on this one.

New one sounds like if you took Ethereal Shroud and then made it uplifting and mediocre.

seraphic is just so retarded as the first real song. it's like they wanted to do some weird major key power metal bullshit after a kinda moody piano intro track and it's all so awful in context. whatever that twinkly bullshit is that recurs throughout is hilariously stupid

I wrote down notes for each song as I listened and this is the copypasta for that song eheh:

Seraphic - starts with some 80’s esque melodic lead work? Same harmony repeats ad nauseum while the song slowly builds up, until like 1:10 when it turns into blasts and screams. The melodies return along with the blasts and tremolos. At 2:00 there’s a break for power chords, simple lead work, all backed up by more banshee wails. Then more uplifting (encouraging? Anime-esque) leads. Then more power chords in a sort of doomy thing. Then I went to check facebook and zoned out, but I zoned back in and there was a really deafheaven-y up-beat part. A lot of dynamic songwriting here, but holy crap is this scatterbrained. They get intense for a little bit (blasts or double-bass), do a little melodic lead thing, and rinse/repeat like four times in a song that’s just under six minutes. They’ve managed to cram a bunch of junk into this song without really expanding on any of them, and it just feels disorganized.

Fuck, son. I think I'm going to just stay away from he new album. I have no faith that it will be better than this and I've dropped this rating at least three times.

there are like three songs that are surprisingly OKish, but the rest are just the same thing over and over again.

yeah Elysian is surprisingly all around solid, but literally nothing else stood out to me

Thrones/Elysian/Cherubim is the strongpoint of the record.

Finally listened to that first single and wow it's awful. Wow isn't really necessary since it's pretty expected but whatever.

it was false advertising on this album, but the new one has a generally faster pace with a few tracks like Golden Number. Pretty much why I liked the new one more.
