The production choice on this one is unfortunate in my opinion. Way too much low end going on, and it really suffocates everything. There are some really great riffs, jaw dropping solos, and one of John Henry's best vocal performances, but what were they thinking?

Yeah it does sound a bit too muddy

It's overbearing. I don't even mind modern production in most cases as long as it's nice and balanced, but if you compare Ballou's production on this to something like Every Time I Die's From Parts Unknown, it just leaves me scratching my head.

I like the muddiness. Its a nice change and it fits with the more aggressive style.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I like the production on their previous one. I think John sounds great on it.

I wish they went with Townsend as the producer on this.

I always felt like their DT produced albums are muddy sounding too. Even more than this one.

'This is the Truth' really is one of their best songs.

Same here. I really like the production on this one though. It suits them.

Considering Kurt Ballou is a legitimate engineer, on top of being an exceptional multi-instrumentalist, I would never question his production choices.
This album sounds great.

I think Ballou helped a lot, if for no other reason than we are all talking about DH again after a couple albums of disinterest. No denying that its a more visceral release.

@tetra ...i dont think sputnik is for you. maybe the youtube comments section would be a more fitting caliber for you.

This production takes away certain things from the guitarwork/melody and would have never worked for Undoing Ruin or Deliver Us but I think it gives this album a unique character in the discography. Hidden Hands is the closest with the 5150 roar and the overbearing snare but this is better.
