How to make a 30 Seconds to Mars song in 2 steps.
1. Play in standard
2. Don't let the guitar take away from the vocals

'If he wants to play with the big boys Imagine Dragons and X Ambassadors, go right ahead.'
Please never refer to Imagine Dragons as 'the big boys' ever again. Even in jest.

I used the term 'big boys' sarcastically. My point remains if 30 Seconds to Mars wants to hang around generic bands like them, go ahead. That only makes 30 Seconds to Mars appear as a has-been trying to be cool again.

'I used the term 'big boys' sarcastically.'
I know. That's why I said 'even in jest.' It's simply too vomit inducing to warrant ever being mentioned again.

Unfortunately those bands are seen as the premiere act nowadays. I don't know why or how, but they are.

Actually, how to make a 30STM song goes like this these days:
1. Jared, stop singing and continue to use that fucking awful and stupid whisper you've done since TIW
2. Continue to saturate your music with more terrible fan "oh, oh" chants
3. Make sure the instrumentals are near non-existent, so we can have more of the above.

I loved the fan gang vocals they did with TIW but it's so old now it makes me wish it had never happened at all.

I don't.

The fan gang vocals very well suited This is War, especially considering the context of which the album was recorded. However, afterwards they really became out of place and somewhat annoying

Nah, I've never dug on them. Songs like "Search and Destroy" only prevented the album from being better than it should have been.
We should place bets on whether the new one will be worse than LLF+D.
Any takers?

I'd take that bet. Since This Is War they seem to have been progressively getting worse both live and in studio so the odds are technically in my favor.
I hope I'm wrong though. I really do.

Agreed. Fucking annoys me they don't pursue the L420 sound. I'd love to hear more of that.

The annoying aspect of 30 Seconds to Mars newer stuff is the direction they are going. Jared Leto tries to be philosophical or inspirational with his music and music videos and fails miserably. "This is War" was a terrible song and video yet people treat it as some sort of statement. It has to be one of the most generic songs I've heard. There was no emotion or depth in the music or lyrics whatsoever. Much like every other band, 30 Seconds to Mars lost what made them unique upon the 2010's. Jared Leto stopped going into crowds, sporting a crazy Mohawk, and playing a mix of their old and new stuff and instead focuses on a bland, tasteless, and overall generic performance.
