I take back my initial take. I hated this at first but after about 4 more spins I kinda love this. I am thankful I did like Dethroned (probably my favorite song this year so far), because I’d probably have never given this multiple chances if I didn’t love that song. It kinda made me feel like I’d like this if I’d give it more of a chance.

2021 has been incredible so far and this is just another feather in its cap. I'm tempted to hand out yet another 5. This is gorgeous, experimental, and extreme: feels like the touchstone record for this newly emerging wave of UK post-punk.

I listened to it in 2019 and promptly shrugged it off as not my thing, but I'm most definitely going to be revisiting now.

On first listen this is...fine. Feels weaker than Schlagenheim. Production seemed really flat to me. I think Squid remain the best out of this scene.

agreed Squid >
the Japan bonus, Cruising, is really nice from this tho. if that and Despair made the cut instead of some of this bs we'd be looking at a stronger album
