I still love Straw Man and think it could've been a SSPU all time great if it ended that insane build up with a huge guitar solo instead of just petering out.
Def the band's weakest but even bad SSPU is still above average

their weakest but it's still good in a vacuum. i like Neon Wound a lot more now than when I was first trying to get into it.
Songbirds, title track, Straw Man, and We Are Chameleons have been the consistent greats for me

from the carnavas thread cuz 2 threads of hype for this band is appropriate:
liked the change up for the 2nd verse/chorus, very cool.
i feel like the vocal delivery was a little awkward
song felt close to some of the Widow's Weeds singles but with a stronger signature SP flair to them. overall, pretty good I think.
album is VERY soon so I'm hyped. 3 Dream at Tempo interludes too!?!?!?! interesting callback

This is actually pretty good but it's lacking a little bit of energy in a way I can't quite explain

"Don't Know Yet" is a banger, as is "Straw Man"... gonna need to replay the whole thing, there were some heavier songs on here I overlooked

wow, spun this front to back and liked it a lot more. Neon Wound has grown so much.
Straw Man to the end feels much more them. It Doesn't Matter Why - Don't Know Yet feel very "woah this is some good radio rock".
but yeah, might bump to the 3.5

still maintain that this album is their best since Neck of the Woods. it's a return to form with the a similar atmosphere to that album and brings back some of the distortion.

Heck is correct T B H
also new single is growing on me after a few listens…reminds me of Nightlight a bit and that single I didn’t love at first but really enjoy now.

I HATE the (I suppose it’s) bass in the new single. So obnoxious and it sounds like it’s intentionally so. Other than that, I really dig the song too. The chorus is solid and the second verse is sublime after being subjected to that awful bass for the first half.

I thought Nightlight was crazy solid at first and now it's like definitely a top 10 SP song for me. so hype

@Conman that just gave me a laugh because I heard it reading what you typed and I really do hate it. Why they would choose to have that shit so prominent and through 3/4 of the song is lost on me. My favorite part of the song is the second verse when they cut that shit out.
Still feel a lot of promise in the new song and I’m hanging some decent hopes on a good album!

They're using a talk box on that, right? Like JBJ-style?
