I agree that this is a bit muddy sounding. I think that comes from the fact that most if not all the songs are played on 7 string guitars so they did have to be tightened up more.

Ive always thought it sounded a little muddy too. Not enough to make me dislike it tho. It really shines when the solos come in.

Yeah same, I don't think I have ever or would ever decreased an album rating due to the production of the album. I only care if the songs are enjoyable and at the very least listenable.

I like Purple, not nearly as much as First, Second, Red, Blue.. but man, that production is terrible. Clipping and compressed garbage for the sake of being loud. no thanks.

I liked thier older records but I don't understand this hype that their old melodic ways were so amazing, in my eyes they're a sub par melodic metal band compared to many others. This album slays and is by far their best in years, and like bloc says their older stuff does sound dated.
